T'Challa's precon, Wakanda Forever, is one of the most fun decks to pilot in the Marvel Commander set. It is also one of the most unfocused. Out of the box it tries to be a Voltron deck, a Monarch deck, and a go-wide deck all at once, and it never fully commits to any of them. So here are two ways to sharpen it into the deck it clearly wants to be: an affordable budget pass anyone can build, and a premium baller build if you want to push it. Every swap below is grounded in the official decklist, community consensus, and the card's actual rules text.

How T'Challa actually wins
T'Challa makes a tapped Vibranium artifact-mana token whenever he enters or attacks, and whenever you cast an artifact of mana value 4 or more he gets two +1/+1 counters. Read those two lines together and the deck's real identity jumps out: artifact-ramp Voltron. Flood the board with mana rocks, use that mana to cheat out big artifacts (each one both ramps you and stacks two counters on the Panther), then suit T'Challa up and swing. The counters are the payoff, the artifacts are the fuel, and the Vibranium tokens tie it together. Every good upgrade leans into that single line instead of splitting attention three ways.
Where the precon is soft
The community agrees on the two big problems, and both packages fix them:
- It tries to do three things at once. Voltron, Monarch, and go-wide all dilute each other. The upgrades commit the deck to the artifact-ramp Voltron plan and cut the detours.
- The mana is slow and clunky. The stock deck stumbles on its own colors early. Even the budget pass sneaks in a couple of land upgrades to smooth it out.
The budget pass
An affordable set of swaps, and every one earns its slot on the artifact-ramp Voltron plan. It packs two card-draw engines, a counter multiplier, a stack of mana-value-4 artifacts that each drop two counters on the Panther, protection, and real Voltron equipment:

- Skullclamp · the format's best cheap draw engine. Equip a token, it dies, you draw two. Refuels the whole deck.
- Ozolith, the Shattered Spire · a counter multiplier: every counter that would go on T'Challa gets one more added, turning his mana-value-4 triggers into avalanches.
- Hedron Archive and Dreamstone Hedron · mana-value-4 and mana-value-6 rocks that ramp hard and trigger the Panther's counters, then cash in for cards later.
- Idol of Oblivion · draws a card every turn you make a token, and T'Challa makes a Vibranium token on every attack.
- Bonehoard · a mana-value-4 equipment that triggers the counters, then becomes a living-weapon body that grows with the graveyard.
- Foundry Inspector · makes your artifacts cost one less, so you hit the big payoffs a full turn earlier.
- Conqueror's Flail · a Voltron buff that also stops opponents casting spells on your turn, protecting the alpha strike.
- Bastion Protector and Swiftfoot Boots · protection: indestructible, hexproof, and haste so the Panther lands and swings safely.
- Loxodon Warhammer and Colossus Hammer · trample, lifelink, and a huge power bump to turn a counter-loaded T'Challa lethal.
- Karn's Bastion and Krosan Verge · the mana fix. One is a land that proliferates extra counters onto T'Challa, the other ramps and fetches both a Forest and a Plains for clean two-color fixing.
Those swaps come in for the precon's weakest cards: the flavor-first Heroes and gear that never touched the artifact plan, plus a couple of basic lands.
The baller build
If you want to spend, this is the premium version of the exact same plan: mana-value-4-and-up artifact bombs that each drop two counters and a board presence, the best green-white engines, and enough protection that a counter-loaded commander does not die to a single removal spell.

- The Ozolith · banks all of T'Challa's counters and moves them onto a new body if he dies. The deck's perfect payoff and its insurance policy in one.
- Esper Sentinel · white's best one-drop card-advantage engine. Taxes opponents or refills your hand every turn.
- Smothering Tithe · snowballing Treasure ramp and card advantage in a single enchantment.
- Sword of Feast and Famine · protection from black and green plus untapping all your lands on combat damage, which buys double-spell turns.
- Portal to Phyrexia · a mana-value-9 bomb: two counters, a double-edged wipe, and recurring reanimation.
- Nyxbloom Ancient · triples your mana and turns the Vibranium engine explosive.
- Akroma's Will · the "you win this combat" instant, either a finisher or full protection.
- Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves · cheap, resilient protection so the Panther survives the wrath and the targeted removal.
- Batterskull · a mana-value-5 equipment that triggers the counters and brings a resilient 4/4 vigilance lifelink body.
A note on prices
We keep prices off this guide on purpose, because singles move constantly and any number here would be stale within a week. The budget pass is built to be genuinely affordable and the baller build is the premium version. For current, live prices on any of these cards, check them at the store.
